"He," the unnamed main character of the three-part OAV Interlude, is a typical high school boy, but troubled by frightening nightmares. He sees his hometown in ruins and experiences attacks by malevolent "fairies." As he explores the links between his dreams and everyday existence, "He" meets Aya, a powerful but mysterious girl. Together, they uncover the existence of the Pandora Project, a program to preserve some fragments of shattered reality, using the memory of a girl from "He's" family. Interlude feels like the beginning of an uncompleted series: "He" and Aya remain woefully underdeveloped, the secondary characters appear and disappear arbitrarily, and the storyline goes nowhere. The mixture of alternate realities, dreams, dreams within dreams, alternate realities within dreams, etc. is confused and confusing. The filmmakers don't seem to have any more idea of what's going on in Interlude than the viewer. (Rated 13 and older: violence, grotesque imagery, risqué humor) --Charles Solomon
